Star Choices Inc. was proud to participate in Advocacy Day at the Georgia State Capitol, hosted by the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD).
The day began with an informative overview of Georgia’s legislative process and practical guidance on how to effectively communicate with elected officials. Participants learned how advocacy plays a vital role in shaping policies that impact people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), providers, and the communities they serve.
Throughout the day, Star Choices representatives met with members of the Georgia House and Senate to discuss key issues affecting disability services across the state. While many legislators maintained busy schedules during the legislative session, several took time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and engage in meaningful conversations about the opportunities and challenges facing people with disabilities, frontline professionals, and provider organizations.
Advocacy is an essential part of creating positive change. By participating in the legislative process, providers, families, self-advocates, and community members can help strengthen supports, improve access to services, and ensure that the voices of people with disabilities and Direct Support Professionals are heard.
Star Choices is grateful to the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities for organizing this important event and for its continued leadership in advancing policies that promote inclusion, independence, self-determination, and opportunity for all Georgians.
We remain committed to advocating for stronger services, supporting our Direct Support Professionals, and working alongside community partners to help build a more inclusive future for everyone.
